Rowing

Once again originally inspired by a song that really sounds nothing like this image. Wasn't sure how I wanted to crop so here's two.

I picture the chorus of fishies singing one long chord. Maybe an E minor. :)

want...

"I dreamed you were a cosmonaut
of the space between our chairs
And I was a cartographer
of the tangles in your hair"
-from 'Armchairs' by Andrew Bird
I'm not tired yet, so this comes out. Andrew Bird writes beautiful lyrics and I destroy them with strange pictures.

Daffodils

I got caught in the rain today on the way back from the Met. This is based off a couple I saw in the park while I was running from the downpour. Aww...

Drawing Day

self portrait with cactus.

Scribbled for drawing day 2009 http://www.drawingday.org/index.php

I bought a cactus at a street fair today and it looks like a little monster. So cute.
I swear I'll draw something other than me next time I post. Two in a row = narcissistic.

Happy Drawing Day!

Killers on the F train

I've been spending some quality time with the F train and about the first 5 songs of the latest "Killers" album.

I really like that line from "A Dustland Fairytale"

NY is full of wierdos. It's great!

Italians and Flippy Dippy Dolphins

Here are some character sketches for the film I just finished for work! I'm basically posting semi old stuff b/c I have only been running around these days and not sketching. This is going to continue (the running around part) since I'm traveling most of the month! Whoo! And I'll be starting a new job in Brooklyn begining of next month! NY inspires me with all it's chaos, so I'll take advantage of the hustle and bustle (and long subway commutes) to hopefully get some sketching done ^_^.

Till then! I'm off to Toronto--->North Carolina--->Chicago---->Manhattan! Ciao!

ROBIN HOOD!

Ok....I know I just posted animation yesterday, but I just finished this one too....

video

Or on Youtube here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQuC6x7pSx8

Has anyone seen the BBC series "Robin Hood?" If not, go watch it. I've just finished the 1st season and the 2nd came in the mail yesterday. Whoo! I'll admit, Robin Hood has been my literary crush since I was a kid. He's just so kickass! Robbing the rich and whatnot. le sigh...

This audio is from the show. I was sketching the characters while watching the other day and felt like animating Robin saying something Robin-y. Just some more animation practice. I didn't feel like animating Marian...she's just scribbled in for reference.

I think this quote of his is somewhat appropriate for my life right now. haha

"The Aliens are attacking the restaurant!"

Something I did today for work. The voice credit goes to my brother Noah. Thanks Nojo! Even though the sound quality is pretty crappy. I pitched it down a bit so he sounded fatter....

All this sitting at a computer hour after hour is getting to me. I'm becoming more round by the minute. I gotta move dangflabbit!

Fun with Fatties

This kid is from a very short "film" thingy I'm doing for work. I'm probably going to go with something more like the ones on the top. He has, like 2 lines. Hopefully some animation will be up soon, either from work or my own projects. CHEERS! ^_^

Hazel Expressions

Roughing out some expressions and trying to get a handle on this old woman that I'm currently storyboarding into existance. They still need work. Crit?

Maybe I'll be able to post the whole things some time soon... 'till then, enjoy my super random panels of unicorn cow squid aliens and Cannibals.

Track Meets and stuff

Sketch Dumpage.
I've just been to a few of my brother and sister's indoor track meets. They make for some decent sketching time. I also just got back from Nashville where I didn't sketch as much as I should have, but I had a good time instead.

In Which I Sense Hostility...

I recently worked at a grocery store. The minute I pulled into the parking lot the first day, I had a feeling I wouldn't fit in. I wish this were an exaggeration. It lasted 3 weeks.

Since then I've started a job drawing and making movies.

Yay Life!

Christmas with the Paccia's

This was the best Christmas Ever! My family is hillarious.

These are the pictures I gave them with their presents this year. I had so much fun doing them. I'm sure most people viewing won't get the references, but they were appreciated in my household ^_^
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

Life Drawing!

Well, I've finally gotten myself to lifedrawing. Hopefully It'll become a habit. I miss the good ole' animation life drawing though. The poses were much shorter. The only place in town to get lifedrawing around here only does a few gestures in the beginning and then move to 10s 20s 1/2hours and hours. Bleaaaaah. I can't draw the same pose for an hour. Especially laying down ones. So I drew people drawing and left at the 1/2.

Duklyon Vs. Evil Beast Wooltar

Ok, I realize that hardly anyone who views this will have any idea what it is. Mostly I did it for me....because it was fun. A breif explanation:
This fanart is from a spoof comic by CLAMP called "Clamp School Defenders Duklyon" The comic is one of my all time favorites and I would strongly recomend it to anyone who likes complete absurdity and/or knows anything about Japanese comics/animation. It's just plain funny. I don't even want to admit to the number of times i've read it. My favorite "Evil Beast" in the short 2 volume series was Wooltar, the cute and cuddly sheep made of pure wool and sure to shock if you give into your impulses to cuddle.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duklyon - in case you care or actually want to know more....

This more retro style is really fun to play with. It's refreshing just to be playing with shapes and composition. Not worrying about any kind of anatomy or sense. I know I can push it further.

Captoring Crew

A bit of nostalgia. Cardcaptor Sakura retro style.

The Clamp ladies are the ones who really started me drawing with any kind of seriousness. So hats off to them for bringing us wonderfully girly stuff and bringing me my first inspiration.

It's been awhile since I've drawn stuff like this just for kicks. It's fun. I'll probably do more.

Sketchbook Sketchbook

Sketching Sketching ^_^

I just came back from seeing a fantasic play. It was called "Tales from the Salt City" and was probably one of the most interesting shows I've seen in a very long time. It featured local people from Syracuse NY (the salt city) most of which were imigrants. Each of them told thier story as they went through the years. The format is hard to explain, but each story was equally fascinating and the visuals and performance element were perfect. Beautifully simplistic and just enough to accent the stories told. This particular show is part of a series of shows like it done by Ping Chong. He goes around to different places and works with the people in that area to assemble a cast and write the script based on thier interviews. I was really amazed at how well it worked. A stage documentary. So, if it comes to your city, make sure you go and see!

Above are sketches from the Salt City. Wegmans to be precise.

Origami

I did a stick figure version of this at school a couple years ago but I thought I'd dig it up and revamp it a bit. It's just silly, but fun to work on. I hope you like ^_^

Gestures

I've been getting into gesture practice again lately and been really inspired by the work of Alex Woo (a story artist at Pixar.) He's got some really amazing and helpful stuff on his blog about gesture drawing. http://www.woohoopictures.blogspot.com/ Check it.

These are just some first attempts at gesture with Alex's lessons in mind. There will be many more to come. Someday I hope I'm nearly as good as he is.
Since I don't have a model handy, I popped in a dvd of my friend Lucille Ball. She makes me smile a lot and she has some great dramatic acting. This episode of "The Lucy Show" also featured Carol Burnett, whom I also adore.

Faeries

This was part of a project I have just finished for my friend Elizabeth Haydon who is now on book tour promoting her series "The Lost Journals of Ven Polypheme." She commisioned me to do a series of images for a presentation she will be giving on the tour themed around Magic that hides in plain sight.

I really enjoyed doing this project because I believe wholeheartedly that magic does exist in plain sight. Once in awhile I need reminding to look for it, but I think it's really important for me to belive in simple magic. Just the realization that the leaves are turning brighter orange day by day or how fascinating and powerful the human mind is. Some things taken for granted are really magical when you look at them with proper awe. I would encourage anyone else to find magic in thier own lives as well. All it takes is the proper perspective ^_^

Unfortunately I only had time to do 3 sets of images. I had ideas for a lot more, but I think the faery one came out halfway decent.

Enjoy!

p.s. The faeries in the lamp post are dedicated to my good friend Martha the "Tricksy Gypsy" because she reminds me that it's ok to believe in faeries.

Tree Tunnel

Linework for a project I'm working on. This is very heavily based on one of my favorite parts of Central Park up around Harlem. Its eventually going to be a night scene with the lamppost as the focus. Perfect place for faeries ^_^. I'll post more from this project when it's finished.

I heart post-its

Just a few things from my sketchbook recently. I've been working on a few storyboards so post-its have been falling out of everything I carry lately. I've nearly finnished thumbnailing a scene from "The Silver Chair" (part of the Narnia series) so hopefully I'll have that up soon. Oh, and I recently bought a car which is featured in the first pic at the top. Other stuff is from life...people being people... dogs being dogs....etc.... Bonus points for anyone who is as happy as that running puppy ^_^

The Great NY State Fair!

Ah the Fair. I haven't missed it since I was born. If anyone ever gets the chance to go, it's worth it. This year I went an extra day just to draw and photograph people. It was so fun! It's amazing how many crazy people and crazy things there are there! Every time I took a picture, I missed about 20 more opportunities for a good shot as I was taking it. These are just a TINY fraction of things I wanted to draw from the Great NY State. Keep in mind, all of these people are for real......O_o. All of the animals were drawn there and the people were done afterward from photos. There are a few more memories I want to draw out for sure, so I'll add those later. ta ta for now^_^

Handy Handies

This project was for the begining of my comunity theater's production of "Pippin" that they performed this weekend. It looked pretty cool on stage. After the animation finished, dancers with white gloves under a black light continued the effect on stage. They were wearing black so only their hands were visible.

I used live action footage and then pieced it together with aftereffects, then brought it into Flash and scribbled over the top frame by frame. Pretty easy process, but fun (minus the tech problems....computers=love/hate.)

And just to fix my earlier post, here is the bottom sketch page that wouldn't enlarge. Hopefully it works this time ^_^

Lately

Just a bunch of random stuff I've sketched lately to show that I'm not MIA. The top one was inspired by a song by Carla Bruni. Maybe sometime I'll do a more finished version.

pinup Rhez

This is really old. I just figured I'd post it b/c I kind of liked it. This was a Christmas present for my friend. It's her character Rhezlic from the stories she is writing ^_^. I really need to sit down and actually finish something again.... All I've been doing lately is sketches.

I just realized I haven't posted my full portfolio here yet. Sorry about some repeats and such a loooooong post, but I thought it might be good to have the whole thing up.

Short Stuff

Just a quick post to show that I'm not dead. These are just some things from my sketchbook lately. I've been working temporarily on a golf course crew while I hunt for animation jobs. Meaning a healthy dose of sunshine, shoveling, learning to drive standard and the occasional free burrito. So far so good. Coming soon: animal sketches. Once I get something postworthy. ^_^
